Staring is RudeToday I found a photo
Of us.
Of you and me.
(I found a photo that we're both in.)
I always hated that picture
Because quite frankly,
Neither of us looked
At the camera
Or that good individually
(Or together.)
I had stupid lines
From an uneven tan
That I got
In an ugly swim suit.
(I've sworn off tanning since.)
You had a stupid smirk
Because you were intent on
Being sad all the time,
But I make people feel better.
(So you couldn't help it.)
Your dad's unfashionable tie
Was trying to match
My cheap prom dress
But failing miserably,
(And his suit was swallowing you.)
I couldn't help but stare
At the train wreck we documented,
So representational of how we were,
That you somehow loved.
(Until we broke up and you sent it back.)
I can't afford
Wasting time like that,
So I made myself
Shred that horrible keepsake.
(Only now, I'm staring at the shredder.)

Staring is Rude by Vegetabelle

We all hang onto photos that we hate
to keep the memory alive, and sometimes
that's too much and we have to erase the proof.

Through all this Light by AllytotheQuaking

From the suggester: I keep going back to it.
Its starkness and bleakness are truly harrowing
in a very subtle way. A great range of emotion.
Dark and light, empty and full. While I have my
suspicions as to the actual setting and subject,
there are many interpretations one can
apply to this work. Highly conceptual.

Once Upon A Starry CavernWe were only kids the first time we discovered the room of stars.
There was nothing seemingly special about that morning. It was the same cave we always visited; all the neighborhood children knew about it. The one tucked away between two hillsides on the far end of Mr. Laramy's crop field, it's entrance hidden by the hanging willow branches of the same tree that marked it's location.
It was a bright spring morning when Jason and I chased each other around the edges of the field and arrived at the willow tree in a matter of minutes. Normally we would play some children's games such as Find the Fox or Maiden's Mother first, but Jason said he had a surprise for me today.
“Look!” he exclaimed, pulling a little silver stick with an attached keyring out of his pocket.
“What is it?” I asked.
“It's a torch.”
“No it's not, it's too little!”
“It may be small, but it sure is bright!” And with that explanation, he twisted the end of it t

'It's Over.''It’s over.'
You say the words so casually. Completely devoid of any emotion. You stare me dead in the eyes. My mouth opens in shock. My eyes search your face desperately for any indication that you’re joking. You’re not. Your expression remains the same. Impassive. Serious. Resolute. You watch me as I fall apart before you. I drop to my knees. Broken. Without another word you turn around and walk away from me. I reach my arm out and desperately try to think of something to say. Anything to make you change your mind. Anything to make you stay. But no words reach my mouth. You are gone forever.

I wake up with a start. I find myself sitting upright in bed next to your sleeping body. I feel the warm dampness of a tear roll down my cheek. I must have woken you up because you turn toward me and sleepily ask if I’m okay. I wipe the tear away hurriedly and reassure you. I say it was just a nightmare. I say I was being chased. You roll over and g

It's Over by: CupofCharlie

Words can fill your mind, your heart,
and even your soul. This piece hits strongly
on two of those. The power and emotion
CupofCharlie pours out here as we step
inside the mind of a woman fearing a situation
that many of us fear: being alone almost brings
a tear to the eye. Well written, this piece
begs to be in your favorites folder and
to be read time and time again.
