The Dragon's Fivefold TaskOnce in far off Kintervale,
there lived a Dragon bold,
who stole away from ancient Kings,
a fortress, great and old.
This was how the state remained,
for ages yea untold,
until the reign of King and greed,
desiring fortress gold.
The King wished for the Dragon's hoard,
to take a daunting task,
so he, wise to negotiate,
sent out a Knight to ask.
The Knight returned with dragon words,
recited to the King:
"Let it be known to human herds,
encroaching on my land,
that though I value wealth and home,
they mean no more than sand,
to an immortal such as I,
I must desire more,
and so a challenge issue forth,
to end this endless bore.
If my treasure you desire,
you need only ask,
but first, of course, you must complete,
a simple fivefold task.
And if your actions fail to please,
there will, of course, be strife,
for if you gamble, gamble great,
and offer limb and life."
And so from Kintervalen gate,
set out the Knights a'rife.
First set forth Sir John the Strong,
for feats of might renowned,
